Le gel est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement produit par dispersion homog\u00e8ne de silice pyrog\u00e9n\u00e9e dans de l&#039;acide sulfurique dilu\u00e9. La silice pyrog\u00e9n\u00e9e est une poudre de SiO2 tr\u00e8s bien dispers\u00e9e, qui absorbe plus de dix fois son poids en acide liquide pour produire du gel.
